Skills of a Good Bartender
- Great Listener: Bartenders have often been likened to psychotherapists who listen to people’s tales and guide them. You do not have to stop your work just to listen to someone whine about how life is not working out for them. You can, however, give them the platform to know that they are allowed to talk to you as you work.
- Principled: A good bartender must be ready to say no to a drunk customer who is still asking for more drinks. It is their social and legal responsibility not to think of the money made from selling, but the consequences of serving someone who is already too wasted.
- Positive personality: The job is not easy, and there are some instances when bartenders face risks that could endanger their lives. Despite all this, a great skill to have is to be positive. Treat it as you would any other job you love.
- Team player: Bartending means working with a team. From the people who deliver the drinks, to additional staff who work at the bar, it is a job that requires constant communication and consulting. It works best for people who have embraced team work and appreciate others.
- Good customer care: No matter how well a bartender knows how to mix the drinks, if they do not have good customer care skills, they will end up losing the customers. Bartenders should also be innovative and willing to try out new drink recipes that will attract more people to the bar.
